594 BCE, Solon
Reforms reduce aristocratic power and expand participation based on wealth rather than birth.
508 BCE, Cleisthenes
Reorganizes political structure and lays the foundation for democracy (he is called the "father" of democracy).
461–429 BCE, Pericles
Expands citizen participation, but introduces stricter citizenship requirements (Considered a "Golden Age").
431–404 BCE, Peloponnesian War
Shows tensions between democratic ideals and imperial actions.
